Potty Training News

WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS LOTS OF POTTY TALK :o)
I don't know how or why I had in my mind that 18 months was the time to start potty training. I remember getting all geared up for it right before we left for Utah for summer break and we went and bought Jaxon a potty and I was going to get right to it as soon as we got home. But, well, the more I've been thinking about it, the more I feel like Jaxon may still be a little bit young...but surprise, surprise, Jaxon actually went no. 2 in his potty today. Now before we all start celebrating, I have to say, I kind of caught him with his pooping face and asked him if he wanted to go "poopy in the big boy potty" and I got him there fast enough that he got to "finish" in the potty. ;o) But still, I was pretty excited all the same!! :o)
While we were in Utah, I taught Jaxon to tell me if he was "poopy" when he pooped and he's been doing really well with that. He even tells me sometimes before he goes...but he's regressed a little with that unfortunately. But he did something funny the other day. I've been trying to teach Jaxon that "poopies" go in the toilet, so Jaxon went and threw his poopy diaper into the toilet! I guess I can't complain that he's getting it...a little bit, eh?
I'm sure we'll have lots more potty stories to tell in the near future. :o)

Jaxon's One Year Pictures

We had an appointment at the photo studio to try and get some pictures of Jaxon and it was HORRIBLE! Jaxon refused to sit still and cried and screamed every time we tried to make him stay in place. So, we left without a single good shot of Jaxon. But, I was determined to get some nice one year pictures of Jaxon, so I decided to try and take some shots myself. So, after two hours of running after Jaxon, bribing him to sit still, running back to the camera to try and get a shot, and about 100 pictures later, these were the ones we ended up with. :o) And yes, Jaxon chose that flower as his play object and Jack thinks it's girly, but hey, it made Jaxon stay in place for a good 10-15 shots! I think it looks cute. :o)
Ahhh, isn't he cute? I can't believe my baby's a year old already!

Trying New Foods

Jaxon tried some beef raviolis for the first time yesterday and LOVED them. I think the pictures speak for themselves. :o)
I love that he is so smiley for the camera now. It's the cutest thing to watch. Here's just another pic of him smiling for the camera.
Ahhh...ain't he cute?
And last but not least, here's some pictures of what we've been waking up to the past little bit.
And this is how much snow we've had out on our patio that has gone through one melting, but other than that, just stays about the same height outside our door.
It's a couple feet at least. I'm just so grateful we are looking at this from the inside of a nice warm apartment! It's been crazy how much snow there has been. I have to say though, as long as I'm inside or if it's not too, too freezing cold, and/or I'm dressed for the snow, I LOVE the snow. I love how it makes everything look so perfect and pretty and white. I love the big ole snowflakes falling down and I just love the feeling of snow coming down. It lights up the sky at nights and just gives this cool misty feeling during the day.

Christmas in Calgary

Sorry for the long pause in posting...it's super hard to get on the Internet when we're at home in Calgary cause my parents are still on DIAL-UP!! So, we're back safe at home in Ohio, so I can finally get some fun pictures up. We had a wonderful time spending time with my parents and my little bro Ez. It's not often that the women in the Lau home are outnumbered by the men, but so it was this Christmas. Calgary had record lows, so to say the least, it was FREEEEEZING cold with lots and lots of snow. But we had a good time seeing some friends and visiting with family and shopping! :o) We hope you all had a great holiday break too.
It was hard taking Jaxon out very much cause he HATED getting bundled up.
He "looks" like he's smiling in this picture, but he's not. He was screaming and fussing that we put him in the hat and coat.
Jaxon learned how to wave when you say hi to him a couple of months ago
and he also has started "smiling" whenever we point the camera at his face.
It's pretty funny watching his expression change to what he thinks is smiling whenever the camera is aimed his direction. Most of the time he actually does give a big smile for the camera.
Jaxon got to try some new foods during the trip...thanks to Gung-gung. Here is my dad giving Jaxon his first taste of eggnog...a little too early for my liking...
But what can I say. Jaxon LOVED it and couldn't get enough of it.
This was one of the warmer days that we actually got Jaxon out in the snow...
...but we really didn't know what to do once he was in it...
Jaxon also learned how to climb up a big flight of stairs over Christmas. He could get up them just fine, but he couldn't get the going down part as easily. But he was so excited everytime he would get to the top of the stairs and look down at the big climb he had made.
Here he is at the top of the stairs waiting for us to take him down again.
Jack was trying to "teach him a lesson" and let Jaxon just be bored waiting at the top of the stairs without any toys or anything to play with so that he wouldn't go back up the stairs again. Didn't quite work. And he just looked so cute I just had to pick him up. :o)
For New Year's Eve, my home ward had a party and we got to do an early countdown with Jaxon and dance around with him. It was a lot of fun.
All in all, we had a FABULOUS Christmas break and we hope you all did too. If you want to see more pictures of our trip, click here.

Jaxon Update

Well it's been a little while since I last blogged, so I'm going to be posting up a bunch of stuff all at once. First off, Jaxon had his 9 month appointment and he is a healthy boy...but a little bit of a lightweight. He is only 18 lbs 13 oz, but he is 29.5 inches tall. So, again, high percentile for his height, but not so much in his weight. Anyone have any ideas how to get this little boy to beef up a bit? :o) Also, we went over to one of our friends home and we discovered that Jaxon can go up stairs. We don't have any stairs in our apartment, so who knew. As for going down, well, not so much. He has no fear and just stands up and falls back. Good thing mom and dad are there to catch him. :o)
Another Jaxon accomplishment-Jaxon has discovered toilet paper. Well, in general, Jaxon has discovered that one of his favorite places at home is the bathroom. Unfortunately, this does not bode well for the toilet paper as you can see.
We also went with our ward a couple of weeks ago to the temple in Columbus, OH. We actually had to drive over 2 hours to get there!! The whole way there just made me feel bad that we had not taken more advantage of the temples so close to home for us when we were in Utah. The ward was great for helping out the parents with young kids and had people at the church right across from the temple watching kids during the sessions. Jaxon was a great little boy...well, as far as what everyone has told us ;o)...and we got to enjoy a nice session.
And SNOW! We got our first taste of OH winter this past couple of weeks with LOTS of snow and cold. Here's the view from our apartment.
And here's Jaxon fascinated by the white stuff outside.
And just one more Jaxon accomplishment to update on. This kid is standing all by himself!! It's been so exciting to watch him go from using the furniture to get himself up to now just barely using a toy on the floor or us to pull himself standing, and then just stay standing by himself for while.
He's still really hesitant about taking steps, but just the other day Jack got him to take one step!! We're still working on it though. Jaxon just likes crawling so much better cause it gets him to where he wants to go so much faster.

Jaxon's Haircut

Before the haircut...
(Can you see why he needed a cut? :o)
During the haircut...
(Crazy hard to keep him still)
After the haircut...
(So much better, eh?)

Amazing Teeth Climber

All I can say is that I have an amazing baby that through sheer force of will...and his mouth...is able to pull himself up onto almost any piece of furniture in our home. We'll have to see how long the furniture holds up to this new trick of Jaxon's. :o)

JAXON IS CRAWLING!

So after weeks and weeks of Jaxon getting up on all fours and just rocking back and forth, he has finally broken through and got himself crawling!! We are soooo excited...and I am soooo nervous about what he's going to be able to get into now. But thanks to all the older little babies he has around to learn from, Jaxon is now crawling at 6 months....well, I guess just about 7 months. :o)

Crazy Sleeper II

Jaxon was playing in his crib with some toys and then all of a sudden got really quiet. I looked to see what he was doing and this is how he was fast asleep.

6 Months, FOOD, and Teeth!

So, our doctor told us to wait until about 6 months before we start giving Jaxon some food, but he's finally 6 months so we tried out some rice cereal with him. He seemed to like it and had a good time the first time we fed it to him. However, then we tried carrots and that was a whole other story. Jaxon just gagged everytime I put a spoonful in his mouth. Either way, he's been enjoying making a mess during eating time. :o)
We also want to report that Jaxon has 4 new teeth! It's pretty exciting seeing his teeth come in already and he's been so good about it. He started having some major drool that seemed to last for months, so we just thought it was a phase. And then all of a sudden his two bottom teeth just seemed to be there one day. A couple of weeks later, his top two broke through too.
If you look really closely in this picture, you can see all 4 of them!

Jaxon's First Swim Experience

We are so lucky that my sister has a pass to the pool on BYU campus. We got to enjoy some time with the cousins and of course my sister as Jaxon tried out the pool for his very first time.
We slathered Jaxon with sun screen to make sure his fair skin didn't get burned. I was happy to get a little sun though! :o) Last summer, I wasn't able to get any sun at all during most of the summer since I was indoors at the hospital and then on bed rest at home for the majority of it. So, I have been sooooo grateful to be able to get out and enjoy this sunshine!
Poor Jaxon was sooo tired after it all. We can't wait to go again!

Jolly Jumper Fun

Jaxon has recently discovered the joys of the Jolly Jumper. It's a blast watching him bounce around in it.

Jaxon Accomplishment

Ok, I don't have a video of him actually doing it quite yet, but I had to announce this anyhow. JAXON TURNED OVER ON HIS OWN TODAY!! It was sooooo exciting to see him do it. He rolled over from his stomach to his back THREE times. I'm sooooo glad I get to be home with him to see his wonderful accomplishments. We were so lucky to have Jack home today too so that he could see it. Our little baby is growing up so fast!
